Letter 11
I’ve never really sat down and written a bucket list, mostly because there isn’t anywhere I DON’T want to go. But here I am, and I’m going to share with you a list of places I’d like to visit in the next 5 years or so.
STATES
As you may know I am working at a summer camp in America this year! I will therefore be based in Maryland, in a little town about half an hour away from DC. Unfortunately I don’t have loads of time to travel afterwards, but I will make the most of the time I do have. I would ideally like to stay in the North East and explore New England, but I’m not planning anything until I get out there. I’m dying to see Boston and Cape Cod, as well as the beautiful countryside in Massachusetts and the surrounding states. Of course I’ll also be paying the Big Apple a visit.
CENTRAL EUROPE
I’ve recently started thinking about what I’d like to do NEXT summer, so that’s summer 2017. That’s a scary number! I’ve decided to definitely stick with Europe, as I’ve missed it. I have narrowed it down to about 8 countries that I’d like to visit, and I have about 4 months usually. Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Bulgaria. I also think I would pop into Italy to re-visit Venice, Turkey to see Istanbul and my Greece to see some islands perhaps. I’m planning to do a blog post on this because I’ve done a little research and it’s getting me more excited by the minute! And it’s a whole year away! Some of these countries are so tiny and unknown but once you start researching them, they become so much bigger in your head, as they’re full of wonderful things! Montenegro and Albania are ones that have definitely caught my attention.
LIVE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY
Again, from previous posts you may know that I’m planning (hoping) to do an exchange on my course to either Madrid or Copenhagen for a year. This is something I have always wanted to do and I’m really hoping I will get the chance. Living in another country is my ultimate dream, so if I can do it in just over a year I will be very happy! I’ve started to learn Spanish and eventually I’d like to be fluent. If I end up in Denmark I will attempt to pick up some Danish too!
SOUTH AFRICA
I’m not sure I will get here within 5 years, but I’d like to! I’ve loved volunteering in the past, and volunteering here (anywhere in Africa – not necessarily South) would be incredible. I know of a few charities who do wonderful things in this part of the world, and Americamp who I’m working with in America, also have a company called Camp South Africa which does great work! When I was 8 I went to Kenya and did a safari with my parents. It was incredible and this is definitely something I’d like to repeat! We only safaried for 4 days before, but I’d like to stay for far longer. Possibly try and work somewhere or volunteer in exchange for board and meals so I can afford to stay longer. This is something I’m looking into further all the time. Lastly, of course I’d like to visit Cape Town. It sounds like a fascinating place and I’m also obsessed with sharks so somehow I’d like to see them!
AUSTRALIA
It’s no secret to anyone who knows me that my biggest dream since forever has been to go to Australia. My original plan was to take a gap year before university and head to the other side of the world. This wasn’t possible, but I’m actually glad of this. I genuinely think I would not have come back. I first want to get my degree and then I will head off for a couple of years and then come back to do my masters. (Architecture is a bloody long course). I finish my undergraduate degree in 2019. I then plan to work solid for about 6 months and then head off to Aussie! I have a lot of friends made from travelling over there so it will be great to see them! I also really want to spend time travelling in New Zealand, where one of my best travelling buddies lives! It looks like a wonderful country with so much to offer.
Other things:
- Graduate from university with a my degree (and hopefully a good grade!)
- Keep this blog up! I really like blogging and if I can keep going for 5 years, I’ll be very proud of myself.
- See some more of Scotland! I live here and it’s such a beautiful country that I need to explore!
- Run a half marathon. God knows when this will be, but at some point I’d like to be fit enough to run 13 miles!
Hope you liked my (kind of) bucket list!
